Tips for Diabetics on Insulin
Make sure you inject in different parts of your body and NOT in the same place day after day as you may form areas of lipodystrophy. (lumpy areas under the skin) and your insulin may not be absorbed in these areas.
The best places recommended are:
The stomach below the belly button
The outside of the thighs – both left and right leg
Both the upper arms
Do not use needles longer than 6mm. A 5mm needle is ideal as you do not want to inject too deeply into your flesh. By approaching your GP and asking for a prescription for this size but always support this request by explaining to your GP why this is necessary.
Change needles on a regular basis. Do NOT use the same needle over and over again as the point can become damaged and may result in a painful withdrawal or even a break leaving part of the needle in your flesh.
